Gothenburg Christmas Market break: £195 pp

Scandinavia’s largest Christmas market opens in Liseberg Amusement Park on 12 November with five million twinkling lights, 700 Christmas trees, stalls brimming with handicrafts, plenty of seasonal Swedish fare and an ice rink.

Two nights at the boutique Avalon hotel, arriving 12 November, cost SEK 2,100 (£195) pp (two sharing) including breakfast and two-day Gothenburg Passes with entrance to the Christmas Market, top city attractions and free public transport.
