Information for pleasure boaters

The Göta Canal stretches between Sjötorp on Lake Vänern and Mem at the Baltic, with 58 locks along the way. Discover the unique atmosphere, the sights, the activities, the exquisite food, the convenient services and the glorious landscape surronding the canal. The Göta Canal is open for traffic from 2 May-2 October 2011.

Plying the Göta Canal in your own boat is one of the most relaxing activities there is. Take plenty of time to make the most of your trip and digest all the impressions you take in. A pleasant journey between Mem and Sjötorp shouldn’t take less than six or seven days in the peak season. The canal has many visitors’ marinas with toilets, showers and other facilities.

For a longer cruise, the classic turn-of-the-20th-century canal boats offer trips of two to six days between Göteborg and Stockholm, or between Söderköping, Motala and Töreboda. Pamper yourself with good food, excellent service and supreme comfort.
