Surely there are things you don't want to miss - the historical wooden town and the cobble stone lanes, the town park and the villas from the 19th century, the walk along the beach front and the quaint harbour including its cosy restaurants. The lakeview can be enjoyed almost anywhere you go in Hjo and if you stay a while you will become fascinated by how different the lake - Vättern - looks from day to day.
When visitors wonder what to do in town during their stay, the residents occasionally reply: "Nothing, which is the beauty of it". Not entirely true, even though the myth claims that the name Hjo is an abbreviation of the latin expression "Hic Jacet Otium", which means "serenity rests here". On the contrary and despite of our serene surroundings there are in fact plenty of things to do while visiting Hjo.
You can enjoy fine wine and food, shop in cosy little boutiques, exercise and experience outdoor activities as well as attend music and art shows. There is something for everyone. The reason to choose us over other places is that life here moves at a slower and more refined pace plus we offer a cosier environment. In that respect Hjo easily grows on you and becomes a habit.
