Mussel expedition on the fishing boat M/S Märta, Ljungskile

Mussel expedition from Lyckorna with M/S Märta

We head out into the beautiful Bohuslän archipelago on board the fishing vessel M/S Märta. The focus of the day is the mussel, one of the greatest products of the Swedish West Coast. The mussels will be accompanied by a local history lesson.  The aim of the skipper is to take you out to Scanfjord's mussel farms, where this most environmentally friendly delicacy of the sea is produced. Once there, we harvest our own mussels that will later be cooked over an open fire. The mussel itself is an amazing creature, every bit as fascinating as the vast growing sites we visit.

A taste of the ocean that stays with you

The fresh mussels are cooked in salty seawater and white wine, over an open fire. They are served with traditional accompaniments and freshly baked bread, a dollop of mayonnaise and a suitable drink. An ocean-based gastronomic experience that will always stay with you.

Weather conditions

The weather on the Bohuslän coast can offer anything from glorious sunshine and a still blue sea, to howling winds and a raging black sea with lashing rain. If you are tough enough to brave the latter type of weather, this experience may be the best you have ever had. You will be provided with warm outdoor clothing and the skipper will ensure your safety on board.

Expedition guest at Villa Sjötorp

Once you have checked in and feel ready for an adventure, you arrive at Lyckorna, where we meet for an information session before it is time to head out towards the impressive mussel farms in the Havsten Fjord.

The Mussel Expedition takes around three hours and once back at Villa Sjötorp you can have a restful evening, and enjoy a menu based around local ingredients, served in the hotel's magnificent dining room.

You spend the night in a comfortable bed, and wake up to a glorious candle-lit breakfast buffet before it is time to return to reality.
