Strömstad
Strömstad offers sea and nature, sailing and town living with a great range of different shops, gastronomic experiences based on delicacies from the ocean, as well as a large number of restaurants and visitor attractions. Click here to read more about Strömstad and its history.
The Koster Islands
The sea west of Strömstad contains hundreds of islands and rocks. Here, you'll find granite grey islands, the salty sea and the unusual Koster Islands with Kosterhavet Marine National Park. On the Koster Islands, untouched nature meets local inhabitants. The landscape offers an unparalleled number of different species. The islands of Ursholmen and Nordkoster have two twin lighthouses.
Shopping
Strömstad has a broad range of shops and well-stocked specialist stores. Strömstad is the forth biggest retail town in Sweden – and the third biggest in Norway! Shopping is a popular activity, both with visitors and residents. Just outside Strömstad is a large shopping centre, Nordby Shopping Centre. Svinesund also has a large retail centre.
Kosterhavet Marine National Park
Kosterhavet is Sweden's first marine national park. Beneath the surface you meet forests of seaweed and meadows of billowing eelgrass. All the species you usually find along the Swedish west coast are found here, as well as a large number of species which are only, or mainly, found here. There are more than 6,000 different species in total. Many of these live in the deep trench of the Koster Fjord, with depths of up to 247 metres.
