Otteröns lies south west of Grebbestad, and ist best known for its shell banks which are among the most notable in Bohuslän. The shell bankat Dammarna is of special geological interest since it is mainly built up of limestone coated fossils of a red alga, whereas the others comprise of fossils from such creatures as molluscs, mussels and barnacle shells. On the island you can find most of the species of calcicoles (plants thriving in limestone soil) that exist in northern Bohuslän, includning many orchids. The centre of hte island is mainly a hign rock plateau, and the highest point, 61 m. above sea lavel, you have a wonderful view of the surrounding archipelago. The island is a popular walking area, with several footpaths criss-crossing one another in peaceful pastoral environs. At the bathing place of Ragnhildskär on the north side of the island, there is a bathing jetty. During the summer there is a bathing boat service from Grebbestad
