The Summer Solstice at Vitlycke museum
Vitlycke museum traditionally celebrates the summer solstice on the 21st June. This is when the day is at its longest and the night at its shortest. We decorate and erect the maypole. The evening ends with a torchlight procession up to the sacrificial bog, where a fire ceremony is held to symbolise a Bronze Age sacrifice and a new day begins.
