Walking along Strandpromenaden is passing through the history of Uddevalla. The shell banks where the walk starts are the first visible historical remains in Uddevalla. The banks were formed approx 10.000 years ago when the land ice melted down and here you also find the first Stone Age settlements in the area.

Uddevalla once was a regimental town and today you can visit the Bohusläns Försvarsmuseum to find out more about the military history.

In the 1950s Uddevalla underwent a huge expansion as the Uddevalla Shipyard expanded and you walk through Tureborg a part of town which was erected during this time. The name derives from Ture's borg(fortress) Ture Malmgren was a romantic who in late 19th century started to build a medieval german fortress. Unfortunately it burnt down in the 1950s but there is still a watch tower which provide the visitor with a fantastic view.

Ture's charming home Villa Elfkullen is situated on a mound close to the river. It is a protected building and open to visitors Sundays in July-September.

Approaching the city centre you pass the church of Uddevalla and the walk continues along the river Bäveån down to the harbour canal. At the north side lies Bohusläns museum, with exhibitions on the provincial history.

The walk follows the southern shore of Byfjorden passing bathing places at Skeppsviken and Bodele before it reaches Gustafsberg approx. 3 km south of Uddevalla centre. Gustafsberg was established in late 18th century as the first seaside resort in Sweden. Now it is just a short way to the final destination Lindesnäs.
