The idea of a sailing race around the island of Tjörn was born in 1963, at a crayfish party. At the time, no-one could imagine how successful it would become, with up to 1,000 yachts and a crowd of almost 30,000 spectators. Tjörn Runt attracts both professional sailors and amateurs, and anything from large 70-foot yachts to small sailing boats with a crew of two.
