West coast lobster safaris

Take part in a hands-on lobster safari and pull up the lobster pots, set them again, tie the lobster’s claws and hear your host’s stories about the creatures and life at sea. That evening, you’ll help cook the catch and enjoy your self-sought dinner in a cosy atmosphere. Here we introduce a few companies in West Sweden offering coastal experiences from complete lobster safari packages to lobster suppers and spa packages.

Everts Sjöbod is located in Grebbestad, 1.5 hours north from Gothenburg. Stay at  GrebbestadFjorden, a boarding house, hostel rooms, small cottages and a large four star camping site.

Located on the island of Flaton, 1.5 hours north of Gothenburg, Handelsman Flink is a delightful hotel offering lobster safaris. In the early 1940s the Swedish national troubadour Evert Taube spent his summers on Flatön, in fact in 1943 he was recommended by his doctor to rest in a peaceful and quiet place near the woods to ease his asthma and so Evert ended up at idyllic Flatön. Follow his example and cycling around the island, stopping to listen to birds, chat to the locals and perhaps even be inspired to sketch and write. Handelsman Flink comprises 10 exclusive double rooms and two suites with marvellous sea views.

Lobster safari - package
Day 1
Start with Handelsman Flink’s fish soup, with safronrouille and coffee, and traditional Aggost from Bohuslän. Then depart for a lobster safari complete with a picnic basket. Together with the chefs you boil the lobster in the lobster cooker at our boat houses and prepare a lobster dinner. Back at the hotel relax in the hot jacuzzi and sauna before enjoying a memorable three-course dinner.

Sea Lodge is found in Smögen, an old fishing village famous for its long jetty with a lovely mix of boutiques, cafés and restaurants all housed in the picturesque old fishing houses. It’s just an hour north of Gothenburg. The hotel has 15 rooms.

The lobster package includes lunch at Sea Lodge’s own gourmet restaurant, lobster fishing/safari, five-course lobster supper, accommodation in a double room (single room available for an added 195 SEK) and breakfast.

Resö is an island located 1.5 hours north from Gothenburg. Resö is a lovely little island with a mix of summer guests and people who lives there year round.  Resö gamla skola (old school) is where you will stay. In English Resö gamla skola means Resö old school and in times past the island’s children were taught there. Now the building includes two conference rooms and a number of bedrooms.

Saturday
Breakfast buffet, lobster fishing and lunch at the fishing boat, help the fisherman to cook the lobster catch and then take afternoon tea. In the afternoon, you have time to relax, use the sauna or go for a walk. The day ends with the lovely lobster dinner.

Stora Hotellet is located in Fjällbacka, 1 hour from Gothenburg and a typical coastal town. Here you can find everything from nightclubs to walking trails. Floating hotel Salt & Sill, located on ‘herring island’, Klädesholmen, in the archipelago 1 hour north of Gothenburg. The restaurant has a stupendous sea views, seats at the tavern and it also has its own guest harbour for visitors arriving by boat.
