The Passion for Food Festival, Gothenburg, 24-26 February 2012

Gothenburg's foodie scene is buzzing more than ever before – the city was named the 'Culinary Capital of Sweden 2012' by the Sweden's Minister for Agriculture, Eskil Erlandsson in recognition of its wealth and quality of natural produce.

This year also sees the 5th anniversary of the Passion for Food Festival, where food enthusiasts can find an exciting range of hand-picked producers, as well as ingredients from quality suppliers of food and drinks. Pick up tips and ideas about cooking at the festival's Cookery School you'll meet a number of well-known chefs who will offer advice on ingredients and cooking.

At the exhibition you will find a selection of drinks, often presented as a complement to the food - wine, beer and champagne, but also new, exciting alcohol-free alternatives. Drink coupons for wine and beer tasting can be bought at the event. And don't miss the Taste Workshops, where you can hear interesting talks on subjects such as wine, beer, champagne, chocolate, liquorice, potatoes, chicken, knives, and much more.

Key events:

There will be a cook-off between four of Sweden's top chefs, including the legendary Leif Mannerström from Gothenburg, who previously ran the Michelin-star restaurant Sjömagasinet.

There will also be a People's Omelette Championships, an exciting and inspiring competition, based around three eggs, pepper and a dash of water!

Visit the Taste of West Sweden stand:

Sample some of the taste bud-tantalising organic produce offered by a selection of Taste of West Sweden accredited restaurants exhibiting at the festival (a network of 25 gastronomic eateries that make the most of West Sweden's first-class produce). Exhibiting restaurants include Adelsåsens Kalkon, Knäck&Bräck, ÖstraGärde Gård, Hälsöfisk, Torggummans Ägg, DalsSpira mejeri, Kosters Trädgårdar and Villa Sjötorp

The west coast's shellfish, such as lobster and oysters, are among the best in the world. The inland forests provide a variety of game, while other districts produce fine cheeses. And the fertile agricultural land is ideal for growing grain and raising animals in the best organic traditions. These restaurants serve up such local, naturally-sourced food and are located in an array of beautiful settings - islands, deep forest and rich farmland.
