An epicurean odyssey – enjoy the Shellfish Journey in West Sweden

West Sweden is renowned for its world-class seafood and a new experience enables visitors to sample the Big Five – lobsters, oysters, mussels, crayfish and prawns – at their best during the autumnal Shellfish Journey.

Held between 24 September - 4 November, travellers are able to embark on a gourmet adventure up and down the Bohuslän coast in which they will venture out onto the waves during seafood safaris, dine in snug restaurants and relax in fine accommodation. The safaris involve helping to catch seafood straight from the ocean, including hauling up lobster pots full of 'Black Gold' from the depths and bringing up oysters from the beds, before returning to shore.

Here visitors are able to help prepare and then feast upon their self-sought delicacies with the perfect side dishes and drinks to accompany them. Besides food to delight even the most discerning gourmet, guests will be able to relax in cosy accommodation in the most picturesque of settings. Think of immaculately laid-tables, candlelight and being snug indoors.

The Shellfish Journeys take place between 24 September - 4 November, during the dramatic and shortening autumn days when many locals believe the Bohuslän coast is at its most atmospheric. In this golden season the seafood is at its best and, after the summer, visitors have it all to themselves.

Seafood safaris are available at a number of locations in Bohuslän, a scenic area scattered with 8,000 rocky islands between Gothenburg and Sweden's border with Norway.
