Dive the Bohuslän coast

In terms of clarity and quality, the water along the Bohuslän coast is as good as any in Sweden. Vision ranges from 10 to 30 metres and you find cod, mackarel, cuckoo wrasse, anglerfish, catfish and many other species. Lobster and crab are plentiful, you can often spot seals, and there are even both soft and hard corals that most people think are only found in the Tropics.

Two companies that arrange dives along the coast:

West Point Divers Dykcenter

West Point Divers offers diving from boats, which are piloted by experienced skippers. In spring, summer and autumn the boats depart every day, and in winter on weekends by request. Dive sites include Väderöarna, Väderöfjorden, S:a Syster, Långeskär, Morö, and Brämskär. The courses are given by knowledgeable PADI instructions with many years of experience, mixing practice with theory both in the pool and on ocean dives. Upon successful completion you receive an international diving certificate, in gold, the PADI Open Water Diver, or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver. West Point Divers is based at the Marina in Tanumstrand, where they also offer other activities such as tennis, golf and fishing.

Oxygène Hönö

Oxygène has two locations: one on the island of Hönö in the Göteborg archipelago and the other in Lysekil further north in Bohuslän. From Hönö Oxygène has two boats that make daily trips during high season to various dive sites such as Vinga and Trubaduren lighthouse. You do two dives per trip and for lunch you go ashore at a protected natural harbour. Oxygène Hönö also offers training. After the entry-level course you receive a PADI certificate, the world’s most recognised. The certificate allows you to rent equipment and dive with dive organisers all over the world. Having completed the entry-level course you can also learn underwater photography, wreck diving, night diving and underwater navigation. To reach Hönö you take the ferry from Varholmen. In addition to excursions and a well-stocked shop, Oxygène also has hostel-style accommodation with capacity for 10-12 people
