Askeberga ship tumulus
Askeberga ship tumulus is one of Västergötland most notable monuments. It is 53 meters long and the second largest in the country after Kåseberga in Skåne. The tumulus is built by 24 gigantic stone blocks of between 25 and 30 tons each. It has been dated ship attachments to the Migration Period (ca. 400-500 e.Kr). The site has since ancient times been a gathering place for people in the district. In the book, "The Kingdom at Road's End" Jan Guillou, this is the spot where Arn Magnusson sounds occupy half siblings and their allies in the race.
