Prior to the construction of this church, services were held at Billingsholm Mansion, which was situated closer to Billingsfors than the churches in Steneby and Laxarby. Initially the Billingsfors factory owned the church and it is believed that the factorys carpenters built the church. However, since 1981 the church is owned by Steneby congregetaion. By this time the church had belonged to the factory for 218 years and it was one of the last remaining privately owned churches. The church was situated on an Island linked with and iron bridge. However, in 1890 the area around the church was filled, which turned the area into a peninsula. The church bells are from 1773 and 1952. Jan Scorel made the altarpiece during the 1500s. Among the inventories is a crucifix from the 1500s, Karl IIX:s bible from 1763, a wine jug made of birch from the1760s and a barrel organ which was used as organ at the end of the 1800s. The organ is from a later date, 1954. A wooden Madonna sculpture has a gift document, which says: "To the memory of all mothers". In 1991 the church went through an extensive restoration during which a new organ made by Göran Strand from Ärtemark was installed.
