Erikstad church ruins
The church ruins in Erikstad are on a hillside, right next to a public highway. The surrounding churchyard, with a number of wrought iron crosses, is surrounded by a low dry-stone wall. The church was abandoned in 1882, when Erikstad's new church was built elsewhere. Erikstad's old church was built in 1686, but at that time it replaced an older one, probably dating back to the Middle Ages. The granite walls of the church, which are largely preserved at their full height, consist of a nave with a three-sided, easterly end - a characteristic shape for Dalsland churchbuilding in the 17th and 18th centuries. The foundation walls, along a vestry to the north-east and a western tower, appear at ground level - both parts of the building were added later.
