Laxarby church
A reformation took place 1759, which shaped todays cross-church. The inventories contain an old incense tub and a baptismal basin made of soapstone from the 1200s as well an Indian ivory crucifix and a chasuble dating back to 1744. The altarpiece located in the presbytery and the pulpit is made by the sculpture Schullström. The church was almost completely rebuilt in 1884. The beautiful ceiling paintings were over painted and covered with wood panelling while the roof over the pulpit and images of Jesus with the apostles were removed. A sepulchral chamber, in which noble families had been embalmed and buried, was found under the floor during the restoration. The first organ was placed in the church 1884. Prior to this date a parish clerks beautiful voice had been as good as an organ.
When the church was restored during the 1930s the paintings that had been over painted in 1884 were exposed. The old sculptures were brought down from the attic and were restored. Exquisite handmade iron crosses from the 1700s still stands in the cemetery. It is said that there is a cholera cemetery somewhere in Laxarby, but nobody knows exactly where. The church went through minor repairs in 1982.
