Steneby church
The church was extended in 1733 and the tower was added in1751. Many churches went through tough times when restoration was very difficult to finance. Steneby church did not even have a ceiling towards the end of the 1500s. However, things got better during the 1700s and the churches could be restored. This is when Steneby church got its present look and much of its inventories dates back to the 1700s. Only the foot stand of the medieval baptismal basin, made of soapstone, remains and is today kept under the stairs that leads to the pulpit. The baptismal basin is an unusual piece. An angel holds the basin while a dove soars over the baptism water. A new basin was place in the church in 1958. The pulpit by Erik Grund dates back to 1779. Depicted in the fields of the pulpit are the tools that tormented Jesus. The baroque altarpiece, by the wood craftsman Nils Falk, dates back to the 1700?s while the church bells are from 1756 and 1932. Behind the altar stands a medieval bell while an organ from 1959 stands behind the organ façade from the late 1700?s. Notable are the epitaphic from the Uggla, Svinhufvud and Ahlefeldt families.
