Vitlycke museum & Tanum World heritage

The Vitlycke Museum is located in the middle of the Tanum World Heritage area towards its western edge and everything you could possibly want to know about the Tanum rock carvings is here.

All over the world people have carved and painted on rocks and in caves. Here at Tanum people from the Bronze Age have carved thousands of images into the smooth rocks of the landscape. This pictorial treasure is so rich in content and so distinctive that it is among the Unesco World Heritage List.

The highlight of a visit to the museum and Tanum rock carvings is that you can walk freely amongst the carvings or take part in our guided tours in English every day during our summer season. You can also go on a nighttime guided tour where you see the rock carvings by torchlight. An experience to remember! For the kids you can book the Archeology School and the whole family can visit the reconstructed Bronze Age farm to see how people lived 3,000 years ago.

Exhibition: Images, Bronzes and Stories

This exhibition takes you on a journey back through time to the Bronze Age world. You get to know, Akaz, Nenna, Alawin, Glicc and Gläär - people we recreated based on archaeological finds from the graves and settlements.

In the story of their lives and adventures, you get insight into what life was like in Tanum 3,000 years ago.

Rock Art Shop

Rock Art Shop is a beautiful and exciting museum shop with a little something for everyone. There are books about bronze-age children, the wonderful world of rock carvings and literature on archaeology, gender, ecology, philosophy and religion. We also sell a wide range of jewelry in bronze, silver and gold and many other items for the mind, body and soul.
