Vitlycke museum & Tanum World heritage


Vitlycke museum is the information and knowledge centre of the World Heritage Tanum's rock carvings in North Bohuslän. There are exhibitions, a rebuilt Bronze Age Farm, slide shows, stores and cafés at the museum.

Vitlycke museum brings to life the rock carving era in many ways.
At our Bronze Age Farm you can see how people lived 3000 years ago. There are many different activities and guided tours at the World Heritage during the summer.

We reopens Eastern 2016

Vitlycke museum reopens mars 26, 2016 and will be open Saturdays and Sundays during Easter and April. Opening hours will be 11 am - 4 pm. From the first of May we will be open every day 10 am - 6 pm. We welcome booked groups during the winter, for reservations call +46 705-845 829.

Exhibition: Images, Bronzes and Stories

It takes you on a journey through time to the Bronze Age world. You get to know, Akaz, Nenna, Alawin, Glicc and Gläär - people we recreated based on archaeological finds from the graves and settlements.

In the story of their lives and adventures, you get insight into contemporary everyday life in Tanum, and you get to go on exciting trips to Europe in search of the golden bronze - both The Sun Chariot from Odsherred, and Sky Disc of Nebra is included in the story where fiction and facts are consolidated into an exciting whole experience.


Rock Art Shop is a beautiful and exciting museum shop with a little something for everyone. Our assortment of books covers such diverse topics as books describing bronze age children, the wonderful world of rock carvings, and scientific literature on subjects like archaeology, gender, ecology, philosophy and religion. In this exceptional shop you will also find a wide range of jewellery in bronze, silver and gold and many other items for mind, body and soul.


Are you longing for a cup of coffee or a delicious lunch in a beautiful and relaxing environment? Then visit Cafe Skålgropen at Vitlycke museum where you can look out over World Heritage and enjoy Ida's freshly baked pastries and organic coffee or home-made lunch.

Ida´s food is cooked with love and personal commitment from scratch. She enjoys working with organic and locally produced ingredients as far as possible.

Digital excursions to the Bronze Age

The mobil app  takes you on a digital journey to the Bronze Age. You will receive information on fantastic locations and unique subject in Germany, Denmark and you make a round trip to the rock carvings in Bohuslän and Dalsland.

From Denmark:  Sun chariot from Trundholm, from Germany: The Sky Disc of Nebra and from Sweden: the rock carvings in Bohuslän and Dalsland.

Rock carving tour

You can book a package with a good accommodation on selected sites in Bohuslän. You offered unique experiences in a journey beyond the ordinary, with inspiration from the rock carvings rich imagery and you get knowledge in the Bronze Age history, all in northern Bohuslän and Tanums world heritage.

Rent a bike and experience the World Heritage Site and the 8000 year old cultural landscape of the area.
