Ärtemarks church
The church has walls dating back to 1200. The roof was re-covered with slate around 1800. During this reconstruction Jan Andersson fell of the roof and died. An extensive reconstruction of the church was made in 1893. During this reconstruction a Geatish tower was raised and a seven-tuned organ was placed in the church. The baptismal basin is from 1200 and the altarpiece, by the artist Nils Falck from Ånimskog, is dated 1739. The pulpit is from 1767 by the wood carver Isak Schullström. The smith Holmer Roos from Dingelvik is the creator of the chandelier. The Bridal Crown made of old gilded silver is by C.G. Hallberg in Gothenburg. It was common practice to put important persons to rest in this church. Amongst these are members of the familes Oxe, Svenske och Svinhufvud. Towards the end of 1800, during a restoration of the floor, many of these graves were destroyed. Skeleton parts were moved to the cemetery. The weather vane on the bell tower is dated 1795 and can nowadays be found on the post shed at Gammelgården in Bengtsfors.
