Ödskölt church
The oldest piece of art in the church dates back to 1726. It is believed that there was a church on this location as early as 1200. The church painter Schüffner painted the ceiling. The roof was covered in shingle and the walls painted red. During the 1800?s the population grew considerably and the church became too small. It was therefore rebuilt in 1862 and became twice as long. Unfortunately the old ceiling with paintings was removed and many of the paintings could not be saved. A tower was raised 1894.
The pulpit was bought in Ånimskog as was the altarpiece, made in 1769 by the sculptor Isak Schullström. Prior to the reformation the church had two bells. One had to be given to the Gustaf Vasa bell taxation in 1531. The bell hanging in the bell tower today is probably the oldest bell in use in Sweden. This was made during the 1100?s. Through the latest restoration in 1960 the church got its present look as well as a new organ. The oldest instrument in the church is a psalmodikon from 1841.
