The first flocks will arrive at Hornborgasjön already in mid-March. Exactly when will depend much on how far the spring come. Then you can normally see the cranes in the 1000s until the end of April. Then the cranes fly on to their breeding grounds. Vast majority of cranes tend to be in early April.
In the spring, you can also see the swan, geese, ducks and many other interesting birds.
The best place to watch the cranes, is Trandansen, located in the Bjurum Hornborgasjön southern tip, near the road between Skara and Falköping. There is ample parking, excellent vantage points, information structure with an crane exhibition, tourist information, souvenir sales and a simple serving.
The cranes come to the fields at Trandansen at sunrise. Then they eat and dance in the fields all day to be flying in the sunset to their beds in shallow water in the lake, well protected from predators. Sometimes they go really close Trandansen - only 30-40 meters away - and sometimes a few hundred meters away.
The crane couples often live in life-long relationships and the dance strengthens the cohesion of the couple. During the dance makes the birds very airy leap, bows and circles around each other. You can not say a certain time of day it becomes the dance, but almost certainly it will be.
Do not forget binoculars and camera. You will be very outdoors so put on your clothes for the weather. Have also a few "gold tens" of the P-machine at hand.

From E20 in Skara against Falköping Rv 184 Follow signs TRANOR (Cranes).
From Karlsborg / Skövde towards Skara and in Varnhem go left and follow signs to take the small road east of the lake. Or continue the highway to Skara and E20 towards Gothenburg. Turn a few km towards Falköping. Follow signs TRANOR.
From Jönköping / Ulricehamn to Falköping. Run a few kilometers to Skövde to the level of the airport by way of Skara. Follow signs TRANOR.
