Great accommodation in Sweden's oldest seaside resort

Come and experience the oldest seaside resort in Sweden at Gustafsbergs Badhotell & Vandrarhem, where you can appreciate the scenic, historic setting to the full. Stay in one of the converted changing huts by the old public baths, or Sjöstugan where the soft gurgling waves serve as a pillow in your sleep.

Accommodation close to the sea in bathing huts and a seaside cottage

Book simple and affordable accommodation at Gustafsbergs Badhotell & Vandrarhem, which dates back to the early 18th century. The salty waters of Byfjorden, lovely swimming coves and smooth rocks are only a few steps away.

The old bathing huts have been converted into 13 rooms for a total of 37 people in bunk beds; there are five rooms with 4 beds, one with 3 beds and seven with 2 beds. Shared showers and toilets, laundry room, TV room and WiFi are all included. There is a veranda with a panoramic view of the sea and a fully-equipped kitchen for guests across the courtyard. You can choose between enjoying your meal in the veranda look-out or outdoors in the garden.

Sjöstugan is a seaside cottage right next to the small steamboat jetty and has a simpler standard than the hostel. This used to be a bathhouse for the poor, so the rooms are charmingly crooked and askew. Sjöstugan has been converted into rooms for 15 visitors in bunk beds: three rooms with 3 beds and three with 2 beds. If you want to pay less and have a large charm factor and a rustic standard, this is perfect for you.

Café voyeurism, royal history and guided tours

Café life at Gustafsberg really flourishes in the summer and on Strandpromenaden, next to Badortsparken, you’ll find Snäckan, a popular café with the best view in Uddevalla. In the past, royalty and the upper classes would travel to Gustafsberg to take seaweed baths, drink water from the well, stroll in the park and enjoy bathing in the salty sea. The hostel, which was originally the place for hot baths in the town, has kept one of the bathing rooms as it was about two hundred years ago. There are many visitors who "wish to see the wooden bathtub".
