Nordic Championship in Oyster opening 27-29 April 2012, Tanumstrand

Witness the seventh annual Nordic Championship in Oyster opening – for the oyster opening elite, as well as the general public with lots of seafood and activities on offer. The competition is held nearby Grebbestad, a pretty west coast fishing village that is known for its oyster banks - approximately 90% of Sweden's wild oysters are found here.

During the weekend, there will be fishing boats moored at the jetty, where people can set off on boat trips and speak to the local fisherman. There will be seafood safaris and fishing trips on offer too, as well as crab clubs for young children.

The event is held at Tanumstrand, just south of Grebbestad (two hours' drive north of Gothenburg). The resort there now offers 88 new rooms and holiday cottages. The restaurants in Grebbestad will also offer special oyster and seafood menus during the weekend.

Schedule for the competition day on Saturday 28 April

12 mid day – Competition starts, with the qualifying heat in the Nordic Championship including 2011 Champion Johan Malm from Gothenburg, Simon and Jonas Tänsager from Denmark, Lars Karlsson from Grebbestad (Everts Sjöbod) and many more
2pm - Lunch
3pm – Final
5.30pm – Prize-giving ceremony and announcement of the Nordic Champion in Oyster Opening
