Welcome to the region of Sjuhärad

Ever since the city of Borås was founded in 1621 Sjuhärad has been the centre of textile production and selling. The salesmen "knallarna" travelled around offering fabrics to people in the villages. The fabrics were first made by female home  weavers. Borås is still a major shopping city. In Rydal in the municipality of Mark there were several textile factories in the 1900th century. Today Mark is the home of several international brands with on-site production and unique factory outlets, as well as several large textile shops.

Gällstad, located south of Ulricehamn, is the knitwear capital of Sweden. Here you can find high quality knitted goods based on handicraft tradition. Along with the traditional companies there is also Lager 157. They sell Scandinavia´s most successful design labels - the jeans department is enormous.

The district of Sjuhärad is also well known for its unspoiled countryside. You can find wilderness, fishing lakes, canoeing and hiking routes of various kinds and lengths. There is tranquillity for those who seek it, and lots of activities for those who prefer to spend their holiday in a more adventurous way.

Here is more than 1000 lakes, deep forests and open meadows and fields. There is a rich animal life and plenty of fishing lakes. Don´t be surprised if an elk turns up at early mornings or late at night. In Sjuhärad you also find several cycling, canoeing, riding and walking routes of various lengths and types.
