Bohus-Malmön is a rocky island some four kilometres long and two kilometres wide. For the tourist it can offer an enjoyable and varied holiday. A large modern marina dominates the harbour scene in the centre, and the harbour is filled with people from near and far during the summer.
The island’s history embraces considerable stone-cutting. The industry started in 1830, and at the end of the 19th century Kullgren AB, a stone company, bought the whole island. With the demise of the stone industry, tourism became the replacement, albeit on a smaller scale.
On the island there are fantastic facilities for bathing and open-air life. Several of the beaches are well organised, and the sandy beaches are immensely popular.
To reach the island there is a car ferry that goes from the mainland twice every hour - free of course!
