Gothenburg and the West of Sweden have chosen Gothenburg Botanical Gardens with Ulf Nordfjell’s Linnaeus Garden straight from Chelsea Flower Show and the 17th century Baroque Läckö Castle, where the Small Castle Garden celebrates Linnaeus, the flower king, through the planting of perennials from botanical gardens around the world.

The Gothenburg Botanical Garden will form a spectacular centrepiece to the celebrations when, on 30th June, the specially created Linnaeus garden will arrive fresh from London having wowed the crowds at the Chelsea Flower Show. Guided tours, in English, will take place from Sundays to Thursdays at 3pm. Get some inspiration for your own garden makeover or simply marvel at his designs. The botanical gardens provide a beautiful, serene environment in which to wander and relax with areas ranging from the Rock Garden - one of the premier alpine gardens in the world - to the Japanese Glade. Gothenburg’s 40-hectare gardens are home to a staggering 16,000 different plant species. In the greenhouses you will find 4,000 different plants, 1,500 orchids, a remarkable tufa section and the rare Easter Island tree.

Head to the shores of Sweden’s largest lake, Vänern, to see another garden created in tribute to Linnaeus at Läcko Castle This fairytale, Baroque castle made a big impression on Linnaeus. Dating from the 17th century, it provides an impressive backdrop for the new garden, masterminded by garden designer Simon Irvine. A collection of perennials and plants from across the world will feature in large, untamed flowerbeds, blooming together for a spectacular show.
