There are six lovely locations within West Sweden, with a further 27 across the country, where Linnaeus’ inspiration comes to life. Pull up your trousers and splash in to the waters next to Svanesund, on Orust island, to find the spot he visited in 1746 and learn about his marine discoveries. See the unchanged landscapes Linnaeus viewed all those years ago at the Bergs ängar Nature Reserve near Skövde. Other locations in West Sweden include the town square in Lidköping at Lake Vänern, a nature reserve at Ålleberg near Falköping, a site for the discussion of natural cycles near the churchyard at Frändefors village and the 10,000-year-old shell hills at Uddevalla. The scheme is the brainchild of the West Sweden Tourist Board and garden designer Simon Irvine and tourist offices across the region can supply visitors with information, brochures and point them in the right direction to find these sites.
