Linnaeus was fascinated by nature and also took a keen interest in the part it played in the human food chain. For example, Linnaeus lectured about eating habits, cooking and exercise – you might call him an early lifestyle guru! In his book Diaeta naturalis, he urged people to reduce their sugar intake, eat less, exercise and drink plenty of water to stay healthy. He even recommended a piece of chocolate to give you a lift when feeling down. With the help of Stefan Grynge, of the A Taste of West Sweden scheme, who researched 18th century menus and ingredients, a number of restaurants will feature food from the 1700s. Diners can enjoy a flavour of life in Linnaeus’ time, but with a modern, 21st century touch. Among those taking part are eateries at Gunnebo Castle, Bjertorp Manor, Läcko Castle and Hellekis Manor.
