Linnaeus events

During the Linnaeus jubilee year of 2007, we will be offering a great many interesting and exciting programme items. For more information, please see our website. A small selection of the events is given below.

13/5 Frändefors Church, 10.00 a.m. Opening of ”Linnaeus Was Here”, botanist Anders Bohlin. Music by Frändefors and Sundals Ryrs Church Choirs. Welcoming speech by Municipal Commissioner, Lars-Göran Ljunggren. Divine service.

23/5 Opening of exhibition, ”The 1700s” at the Vänersborg Museum. The ”Flower Journey” song with music played by Difference.

9/6 Jubilee tour in the footsteps of Linnaeus, with Linnaeus, and Linnaea as outrider, through the early summer colours of the Tunhem countryside. Start and refreshments at Västra Tunhem’s Church at 10.00 a.m.

16/6 Opening of Linnaeus exhibition at Dårstugan (Fool’s Cottage), Medical History Museum at 12.00 noon. Herbs that Linnaeus used for medicinal purposes will be shown and explained in the Museum’s herb garden.

17/6 Wild Flowers Day of the Nordic Area in the five Dalsland municipalities, and in Vänersborg, in the spirit of the Linnaeus jubilee.

30/6-1/7 Linnaeus days at Västra Tunhem. Theatre, music, guided tours, demonstrations of old crafts, etc.

18/7 Park tour in Skräckle Park at Vänersborg, 5.30 p.m. Guide: Sara Lisa, wife of Linnaeus, in period costume.

22/9 - 4/11 Chaos von Linnaeus. National exhibition at Vänersborg’s Art Gallery. The world of Linnaeus in thoughts and pictures will be shown here.

11/11 Linnaeus flowers - People and Plants associated with Linnaeus. Professor Bertil Nordenstam of the Swedish Museum of Natural History will give a lecture at the Vänersborg Museum at 3.00 p.m.

25/11 The environment of the 1700s – the objects tell their story. Lecture by art and antiques dealer, Bo Knutsson. Vänersborg Museum at 3.00 p.m.
