Visiting Gothenburg has never tasted so good – the gastronomic city gains another Michelin star
Gothenburg’s culinary credentials received another boost when Kock & Vin became the city’s fifth restaurant to be awarded a star in the prestigious Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe 2008 – published tomorrow. Kock & Vin, located in the Vasa restaurant district of West Sweden’s coastal city, was also crowned ‘the best wine experience in Sweden’ by the Swedish White Guide: the country’s own version of the Michelin Guide.
Kock & Vin (
www.kockvin.se
) is run by Björn Persson, one of the most established chefs in Gothenburg and a well-known sommelier. It follows a basic philosophy of using locally-produced and sourced raw ingredients wherever possible and aims to find the ultimate combinations of food and drink. The four-course Menu Kock & Vin features dishes including herring fried with bread, bleak roe from Kalix and crème of pickled lemons, along with the likes of roast beef from Skåne with beets, capers, slices of duck liver and porter sauce. Like Gothenburg’s other Michelin-starred venues, Kock & Vin offers excellent value as this full menu costs SEK 595 (approx £48) and a wine package to go with it is from SEK 395 (approx £32).
An intimate restaurant with an informal atmosphere, it also features the basement Björn’s Bar serving mostly Swedish cheese, oysters, sausages and hams with selected wines.
Gothenburg’s other four Michelin-starred restaurants include Sjömagasinet, 28+, Fond and Basement. Taste gourmet Gothenburg’s Michelin-starred eateries for yourself, as well as exploring its other cultural attractions, with the Gothenburg Package. Stay at the luxurious Elite Plaza Hotel in the city centre for two nights from Friday 28 March for SEK 1,760 (approx £140) pp. This price is based on two people sharing a double room and includes breakfast and the Gothenburg Pass – giving access to 20 top city attractions and free public transport.
