The Trollhättan waterfall

THE WATERFALL & LOCK AREA

One of West-Sweden’s seven wonders consists of the locks in Trollhättan. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the area each year to see how boats make their way through the locks and not in the least to see 300,000 litres of water being released into the river.
Fallens dagar

THE WATERFALL AREA

The Trollhättan Falls are unique. They will treat you to a spectacular experience, as 300,000 litres of water per second rush by. The best place to enjoy this view is from the Oskarsbro (Oskar’s bridge). There will be water in the falls at the following days and times during 2008:

May, June & September at Saturdays at 3 pm
July & August every day at 3 pm

During the festival Fallens dagar (18-20 July 2008) there will be water in the falls at: 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 och 11 pm

FORNGÅRDEN
On the left riverbank, just above the waterfalls, lies this green area with older buildings that are open to visitors in the summertime. Here story of the city is told and during bright summer nights you can enjoy nights music and singing here.

WALKS IN THE AREA
Walking is probably the best way of experiencing our beautiful nature. Just outside the town centre lie the falls and locks area, where you’ll find three marked walks that present interesting information about the industrial history, sagas, and myths.
All three are included in the ”Living History Book”, that you can purchase at the tourist agency or Innovatum Science Center.

Lock from 1916 in Trollhättan

THE LOCKS AREA IN TROLLHÄTTAN

The locks area – The three separate lock terraces create the idyllic and green park area of Gamle Dal’n. Here one finds lock segments from 1800, 1844, and 1916. The four locks that are in use today were inaugurated in 1916, and have a difference in level of 32 m. Apart from the locks, you’ll find a pleasant café (open during summer), guest harbours, and the Canal Museum. Boat tours are available.

THE CANAL MUSEUM
The Canal Museum depicts the history of the Trollhätte-Canal by means
of, amongst others, boat models, divers, and film presentations in
Swedish, English, and German. Each year, the museum generally hosts a
theme exhibition.

GUIDED TOUR
In summertime, you can take a guided tour through the locks area. Innovatum Science Center will guide you through the history behind different segments of the locks and the people that built them.

BOAT TRIPS
Experience Trollhättan from its most beautiful side, the lakeside, and see the city in a different way. In summertime, the shipping company Strömkarlen provides boat trips on the Götariver and the Trollhätte-Canal. A boat trip takes about 2,5 to 3 hours, and it will take you through the locks of Trollhättan or Vänersborg. Embarking and disembarking takes place at the upper lock or at the quay in the centre of
Trollhättan.
