Trollhättan is a place of creativity – not in the least thanks to its entertainment industry. Apart from a production base for many feature films, the town is also the home of Saab Automotive. More than four million Saab cars have been manufactured here to date.
Many adventurers hail from Vänersborg. Charles John Andersson and Axel W Eriksson were involved in the founding of Namibia. Knut Knutsson owned large areas of land in Cameroon, and Gottfrid Schagerström was a marine captain in Belgian Congo. Already in 1679, Vänersborg became the seat of the county government, and today it is the base for the regional council and administration of Västra Götaland. Trade and Industry is wellrepresented through, amongst others, the VBG group, a number of blue-chip companies, and leading manufacturers of trailer couplings for heavy vehicles. Our area offers a wide variety of educational institutions, e.g. the College, the agricultural gymnasium of Nuntorp, and the nationally renowned Vänerschool for the hearing impaired.
