Åmåls Railway Museum
Åmål

Steam locomotives, coaches and a large collection of train items

The Railway Society is found in the old company's roundhouse just south of the train station in Åmal. The train building was purchased by SJ for a dime and since then have a handful of enthusiasts been working to refurbish the building and create a museum.

Locomotives and carriages

There are a number of steam-engine locomotives and a many of carriages arranged in the track area outside the engine shed. A first class coach from 1940 and a dining coach from 1938 is some of the treasures. The Railway Society owns more than 20 coaches, including six from the 1930s and six diesel locomotives.

A big collection

The society's museum area is found in the former storage room of the locomotives stables. The collection includes a variety of railway historical items, primarily from the stretch between Åmåls-Årjäng, but also from BJ and SJ. The museum includes a large number of tickets, signs and schedules. From Åmåls train station, the association received a personal scale, where those who want to buy an old coin in the kiosk can weigh themselves to get a weight ticket.

Opening hours

Summer 2022 closed due to staff shortage.
