Bohuslän is getting ready for the shellfish season and welcomes you to enjoy the Shellfish Journey. Join us on an exhilarating boat trip to catch lobster, prawns, langoustines, mussels and or oysters; guaranteed to be locally produced and incredibly fresh!

The Shellfish Journey is based around the best shellfish in the world, wonderful places to eat and stay, and fishing trips in the unique magical archipelago of Bohuslän. Imagine a rough sea and a howling wind. Imagine attractively laid tables and lit candles. Imagine all the glorious shellfish of the Swedish west coast on your plate, and an atmosphere that is not available anywhere else in the world. Book one of the packages of the Shellfish Journey, now available almost all year round.

The Shellfish Journey in Bohuslän is a food and travel concept intended to generate new seasons and attract more visitors to Gothenburg and the west of Sweden at the times when local shellfish is at its best, i.e. in the spring and autumn. The theme is Bohuslän's Big Five, which refers to the edible delicacies of the sea; Oysters, lobster, langoustines, prawns, mussels, and all the activities you can design around these delights.

The main culinary festivity in Sweden is in August. In the warm summer evenings, Swedes put on silly paper hats, fill their schnapps glasses, and sing and toast each langoustine they eat. But langoustines can be enjoyed all year round, and the Shellfish Journey includes wonderful langoustine packages mainly in the spring and summer.

Best enjoyed from a paper cone on a pier in Bohuslän, but often eaten as Sweden's most popular sandwich, i.e. in heaps on a large slice of bread, preferably accompanied by a cold beer.

Yet another feast involving shellfish. This time of the luxury variety. The Lobster Premiere is that day each autumn when Swedish law says you can start catching lobsters. The date is always the first Monday after the 20 September, at 07.00 am. On this day, the boats glide out early in the morning to set their lobster pots. This is the beginning of a lobster feast that includes both local piers and exclusive restaurants. The Shellfish Journey includes a number of wonderful lobster fishing packages.

The climate and the water temperature are the reasons why Sweden and Bohuslän have first class oysters. Many are exported, but the best way to enjoy this delicacy is probably to open them one by one on a smooth cliff somewhere in Bohuslän, warmed by the evening sunshine, and with bubbling champagne in your glass.

You don't have to be French to love this unassuming little shellfish that is delicious, nutritious, and environmentally friendly. The mussel even has its own festival, when people vote for the best mussel recipe. The Shellfish Journey includes a number of different packages on which you can enjoy these delicacies.
