Day of the Herring
Klädesholmen is the island that breathes and lives herring and its history. It is home to a herring factory, a herring museum and the restaurant Salt & Sill, which honours the herring heritage through culinary recipes and flavour combinations. It also hosts the coronation of Herring of the Year during the Day of the Herring each year.
On Sweden's National Day, June 6, one of the oldest Swedish culinary traditions is celebrated with its own day. It’s a festive day with the herring in focus. Try a delicious herring lunch at the harbour pier, and enjoy the local food market and music. Take the opportunity to make your own midsummer herring at the old herring factory.
One of the highlights of the day is the launch of Herring of the Year, produced by the local and historic herring factory Klädesholmen Seafood. You can buy the herring of the year, other flavours of herring and its delicious caviar. One Swedish crown (1SEK) from each can of the Herring of the Year goes in full to the Naval Rescue Society.
