The Åsunden Trail
The Åsunden Trail is a 49 km long circuit around Lake Åsunden, with lovely views of the water from several spots. The path winds through mixed forest and farm land, and passes two nature reserves with beautiful glades of deciduous trees.
Start and end point
Åsunden trail runs along lake Åsunden with the start and end point at Lassalyckan's outdoor recreational area.
What to see
The hike takes you through the diverse agricultural and forest landscapes surrounding the lake. The trail passes two nature reserves: Korpeboberg, just south of Marbäck on Åsunden's eastern side and Kråkebo, which is located on the north-western side of Åsunden. Both reserves boast idyllic, deciduous forested areas. Some stretches on the western side of the lake are decently hilly. The trail takes you through some very steep passes. There are numerous impressive vantage points and you are afforded a stunning view across the lake and of the surrounding landscape. The trail runs mainly along forest paths and roads with paved roads in some sections.
Along the trail there are many designated picnic and rest areas, with benches and tables, and lots of accommodation alternatives. Ulricehamn has several to choose from, the nearest to the trail being Hotel Lassalyckan. In the centre of Ulricehamn, about 2 km from the trail, there’s more accommodation on offer, as well as shops, restaurants and other services. On the southern stretch of the walk you’ll pass the village of Vegby, where there’s a camping site, café and shops. Other accommodation in the area includes Ekelidens B&B, around 2.5 km from the trail, and Åsundsholm Golf & Country Club, about 1 km away, which has a restaurant that uses locally sourced, top quality ingredients. If you want to sleep outdoors, this you can do according to the 'Right of Public Access' rules.
