Stage 2: Ulricehamn – Tranemo

The stage from Ulricehamn to Tranemo is 36 km, and the path goes solely along former railway tracks. The cycle route takes you through stunning natural landscapes, with wonderful lake views, verdant hills and forests as far as the eye can see.

Ulricehamn - by the lake Åsunden

Ulricehamn has a quaint town centre, with cobbled streets, boutique shops and lots of great restaurants and cafes. There are plenty of places to stay the night, and a lovely traditional bath house with a restaurant, massage treatments and the option to swim in Lake Åsunden.

Stunning natural landscapes

The stage from Ulricehamn to Tranemo is 36 km, and the path goes solely along former railway tracks. The cycle route takes you through stunning natural landscapes, with wonderful lake views, verdant hills and forests as far as the eye can see. Just outside Marbäck are Korpeboberg’s leafy woods. This nature reserve consists of an area of deciduous woodland surrounding three estates - Näsboholm, Kärrabo and Korpebo. There are some lovely viewing and rest areas with benches, tables and outdoor cooking areas, and the Åsunden Trail also passes through the reserve.

Exciting detours

From Vegby you can make a little 4 km detour to Åsundsholm, with accommodation, restaurant, café and golf facilities, or if it’s shopping you fancy detour in the opposite direction to Gällstad. In this little town with a long history of textile production you’ll find both shops showcasing both exciting newcomers and internationally renowned classics. The cycle path passes through the ‘centre’ of the village of Månstad which consists in the main of pretty agricultural land dotted with farms. By the station area you can stop to make something to eat in the pretty BBQ cabin or walk to a lovely mini nature centre.  We highly recommend a detour from Månstad to Hofsnäs Manor and Torpa Stenhus (6 and 11 km respectively from the path).  At Hofsnäs Manor you can dine and stay in fantastic settings next to a lake, in surroundings steeped in history with some great walking trails. Torpa Stenhus is one of Sweden’s best preserved manor houses from the 1500s, with an exciting history and unique architecture to experience.

Sweden’s oldest working glassworks

On the road to Limmared you’ll go past Skårtebo Nature Reserve, where there are several short walking trails and picnic spots. You’ll also pass Opensten, a medieval defence fortress dating back to the 1200s. Limmared is home to  Sweden’s oldest working glassworks, where the famous Absolut bottle, amongst other things, is made. Glasets Hus museum is also found here, with extensive exhibitions of glass items, glass blowing and a restaurant/café. The town itself has become somewhat of a mecca for second hand and antique shop enthusiasts.
