Marstrand - a love story

Marstrand is the smallest town in the county of Västra Götaland, but is the principal summer resort. A place for pleasure and a place to love for its cultural history, its buildings, its tall stories and legends – but also for its royal splendour. Marstrand is of course most renowned as a playground for sun-worshipping, bathing and sailing folk.

Carlstens Fort

At the top off Marstrand Island lies the Carlsten Fort. As a giant grey guard it has watched over the little wooden city for centuries. Long lost times of imprisonment and fear has changed to an exciting attraction and an important silhouette in the Marstrand skyline.

Regattas 2011

Here is the list with all sail races that takes place in Marstrand in 2011. Small local races mixed with international regattas and cups.

Match Cup Sweden

The principal event is the Swedish Match Cup, which runs for a whole week and brings here elite racing sailors from all over the world. This is when everyone is here, even His Majesty the King.

The history of Marstrand

Marstrand is a very old city, you can feel the history walking between the small picturesque houses. It was founded in the thirteenth century by the Norwegian king Haakon Haakonsson. Marstrand became Swedish in 1658 as a result of the peace treaty at Roskilde

Bergs Konditori

An institution that has been at Marstrand since the beginning of the 20th century with tables at the dock and our own bakery. Lovely sandwiches and pastries, “A sailor’s breakfast – a classic”
