Mariestad
At the entrance to the outer harbor in Mariestad stands the municipality's latest addition of lighthouses and monuments. The tilting lighthouse Lennart adorns the site with its special construction and is erected by Mariestads Fyrsällskap in collaboration with Mariestads municipality.
The tilting lighthouse is erected as a memorial to the former shipping in Mariestad. The lighthouse has been named Lennart after Mariestads Fyrsällskap's founder, the late Lennart Högstedt. Today's modern construction has electric light in the basket unlike the open fire of olden times.
The lighthouse is located at the entrance to the outer harbor from Hamngatan in Mariestad. A well-visited place by both local residents and tourists.
The tilting lighthouse was invented by the Dane Jens Pedersen Grove. It is a stand with an open fire in a metal basket, where the basket is raised up and down with a lever. The first tilting lighthouse was erected in Skagen in Denmark in 1627.
