Sandsjön runt
Lida

"A Northern feeling" in Vårgårda

Sandsjön, or Lidasjön as some may call it, is a popular spot for locals when they long for the more northern parts of Sweden.

The nature around the lake is stunning, and it feels like you're much farther north than you actually are.

The red trail goes all the way around the lake, with two alternative sections on the southern part of the lake. The yellow trail takes you to Ungesjön and the northern part of Sandsjön, where you'll find a lovely bridge over the inlet. There's also a bench here, perfect for a snack break. You can easily combine both trails for a longer hike. Note that both trails follow the same route on the northern side of the lake.

On the western side of the lake, there are two more rest areas: one on a rocky outcrop and a newly established one by the lakeshore. Both have clear signs from the trail.

After passing the lake’s outlet, you can either follow the trail through the forest near the lake or walk up on the gravel roads and pass through Lida village back towards the parking area. Walking through the village, you'll pass a beautiful Natura 2000 area with high biodiversity.

Not far from the trail, you'll also find Lida’s Biodiversity Farm, an organic cooperative farm where you some days can buy vegetables directly from the farm stand.

After the hike, it's perfect for a swim at the municipal bathing area on the lake’s eastern side. This area also has parking, a barbecue area, and picnic tables.
