Part of

Djäknarundan
Karlsborg

11 km, moderate

The Djäknarundan is a pretty circular walk. The trail winds through easily walked terrain, with woodland, small glittering lakes, a beautiful archipelago and traces of both the Ice Age and historic cultural landscapes.

Explore the lovely varied scenery on this round walk, with sparkling lakes, nature reserves and enchanted forests. The Djäknarundan has everything and more when it comes to hiking in fantastic natural surroundings. The trail is on the whole easily walked but there are a few sections that are a little more demanding.

Places to stop and sleep

Up on the mountain there’s a shelter you can stay the night in, with a grill area and a beautiful view of Stora Djäknasjön lake. There’s an outdoor compost toilet in the car park at the bottom of the mountain. You’ll also find a picnic area at Långviken.

Nature reserve

The trail passes through two different nature reserves, both Håketjärnarna and the Valekleven-Ombo islands. The latter stretch over a wide area of the shoreline, with a pretty archipelago. Here the foothills reach all the way down to the shore of Lake Vättern. This area is part of the EU’s network of nature protection areas, Natura 2000. The reserves provide the right conditions for plant and animal species that had disappeared to come back, like the eagle owl which can be heard hooting in the reserve during summer.
