Björsäter church
Björsäter

Church from 11th century in historic village

Björsäter's village is an old village curled up on a pebble ridge overlooking the area. The village's church must have been here since the 1000s.

In 1754, thorough renovations were made to this church and it got its current appearance. However, parts of the old church are included in the south wall of the current church.

In 1921, the thunder struck the church and it was ravaged by fire. It was rebuilt and it regained its appearance from 1754, but the church bells could not be saved so those that hang here today come from the 1920s.

Inside the church you will find the old pulpit in baroque style from 1686 and also the communion silver is from the 17th century.

In 2005, Björsäter's church was restored and when Bishop Erik Aurelius reopened it in April of the same year, the arches had now been beautifully lit by rosaries.
