Furnäsudde Domain Reserve

A domain reserve full of pines

Furnäsudde Domain Reserve sits 13 kilometers northeast of Mariestad. The area is a part of Östersundet's eastern beach.

The reserve is made up of 3 hectars and is mainly old pine forest. The windier spots have somewhat shorter and gnarlier trees than the rest. The pines are on average tall and very old; about 200-250 years. There's a lot of dead and semi-dead trees, which is favourable for the birds which make their homes in such trees. The vegetation is rather limited in its amount of species, but typical for lean pine forest.

Furnäsudde is a forest set aside as a reserve by Domänverket before it was incorporated in 1992. Because of this, the reservation is managed and cared for by Västra Götaland's county administration.

You're very welcome to visit Furnäsudde Domain Reserve, but do keep in mind that it's not allowed to:

  • Use vehicles
  • Set up a tent
  • Ride horses or other animals
  • Erect a sign, inscription, poster, or anything similar
  • Make a fire
