Impressive ravines just outside Skara

In the relatively flat landscape north and west of Skara, the stream ravines become hidden worlds where you can step under a shimmering canopy of leaves and explore a relatively unknown part of Skara's nature.

Tvetabäcken winds its way through narrow valleys north of Skara. Along the stream there are many flowering pastures and secretive deciduous forest caves, but they are not easy to find.

A good place to start is at Tveta station, where there used to be a six-kilometer nature trail. About halfway along, it becomes difficult to navigate, but the first half is still easy to walk on. The trail follows the stream through flowering pastures, and those who walk carefully at dusk have a good chance of encountering a beaver.

An even more exciting place to follow the Tveta stream is at Åkedal, where sandy slopes covered with bridal wreaths and bluebells drop steeply down. A path leads down into rainforest-like fern darkness, and the brown water almost seems to hide crocodiles.
