Guided tour at Kata Farm

Regular guided tours during the season

Free guided tours at Kata Farm during the period 30 June-10 August at 11:00. NOTE new time! Free and no registration required.

Booking of guides for groups without their own guide

Book a guided tour at Kata Farm at the Reception of the Västergötland Museum, email receptionen@vgmuseum.se or call 0511-26070.

Cost 1500 SEK per group regardless of size.

A guided tour takes about 40 minutes. The guide will meet you at Kata Farm.

There is a sound system and a hearing loop. There is also a lift at Kata Farm.

Cancellation must be made no later than the day before the visit, otherwise the full fee will be charged.

Booking of Kata Farm for groups with their own guide

For groups wishing to visit Kata Farm with their own guide, please contact the Reception at Västergötland Museum for booking on 0511-260 70.

Practical information

From the car park, it is approximately 300 metres to walk on a gravel road with a slight uphill incline. Up at Kata Farm there is a small space for accessible parking.

Guided tour of Varnhem Abbey Church

Abbey Tour (tour of the abbey church and abbey ruins)

Regular guided tours during the period 23/6-17/8 Monday-Saturday at 11:00 & 14:00 and Sunday at 14:00. Price: 70 SEK/person. Children up to 15 years free.

Please note! No guided tour on Sunday morning as a high mass is being celebrated. Guided tours are not held during baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and sometimes during other events in the church.

Guidance for booked groups

Group visits need to be booked in advanced. This is to ensure that the group's visit does not clash with church activities or a scheduled guided tour. If a group has not booked in advanced, visits to the church cannot be guaranteed.

Booking fee with no guidance 500 SEK.

Guide fee (including booking fee, guidance approx. 45 min):

1-9 people 70 SEK/person

10-19 people 700 SEK

20-29 people 1,200 kr

30-39 people 1,800 SEK

more than 40 people 2,400 SEK

Children up to 15 years free.

For guidance outside the regular opening hours of the summer season when a guide is present, an additional fee of 750 SEK applies.

For guidance in English or German, an additional fee of 500 SEK applies.

Guidance free of charge for confirmation groups in the Church of Sweden and schools in Skara Municipality. Other schools 500 SEK.

Outside regular opening hours + 500 SEK, extra guide for large groups + 500 SEK.

Please note that even if you are a group bringing your own guide, you need to book the time in the church to avoid multiple groups arriving at the same time.

Guided tour of the Dahlia Sun

Every year, dahlias are planted in Varnhem by the Swedish Dahlia Society in a beautiful sun-shaped arrangement.

Guided tours in 2025 take place at 14:00 on the following dates:

10, 17, 24 and 31 July

7 and 14 August

Free and no registration required.
