From the abbey village to the Varnhem railway town
The exhibition is organised by the Skarke-Varnhem Local Heritage Association. It is based on a long-standing history project conducted by the association. Knowledge about farms, people, and various activities in Varnhem, especially during the 19th and 20th centuries, has been systematically gathered by studying old photographs, maps, various historical sources, and by collecting stories from the local area.
Bo Ramviken's photo series about the life of a smallholder couple over 25 years
In Varnhemsgården, there is also a photo series by Bo Ramviken depicting the life of the tenant farmer couple Blixth throughout the year. About sixty of the pictures are mounted on screens and in frames. There's also a flip chart with another hundred or so images. The photo series depicts the year-round, day-to-day life of the smallholding couple Blixth at Sörgården, Varnhem from 1970 to 1995. The couple used old methods in their work with hand milking of cows and manual labour in potato cultivation and crop harvesting, but also the emerging modern amenities of the time. A tractor was both a work tool and a means of transport in general.
