Nature Reserve Ryd meadows
Skövde

Wooded hills dotted with pastures and meadows

Ryd Meadows is the perfect destination for those who enjoy beautiful nature close to the city. Just a stone’s throw from Skaraborg Hospital, you will find wooded hills dotted with pastures and meadows.

A wealth of flora

In the spring, numerous cowslips, almond blossom and cherry trees bloom in the nature reserve. The pastures are largely old arable land, but the number of plant species is growing significantly. Here you will find liverwort, wood anemone, star-of-Bethlehem, spring vetchling, violets and lungwort during the spring and summer.

Close to Ryd Caves

Directly above the meadows, on the slopes of Billingen, are Ryd Caves with their lofty diabase pillars. Here, you can get fantastic views of the city. There are also places to barbecue and sit. Just north of Ryd Caves is the former hill fort of Ymsingsborg. All that remains is precipices and rock berms.

Varied walks

A number of walking trails run through the nature reserve, including the Billingen Trail and the Trollstigen Trail, both of which pass Ryd Caves. If you’re looking for walking trails that lead through the meadows and deciduous forests, follow the trails adjoining the Billingen Trail.
Camping is permitted within the nature reserve, but not cycling.
