Go hiking at Bottenstugan in Svartedalen
Kungälv

1,9 - 4 km

Bottenstugan, by Ålevatten, is a popular spot in Svartedalen from where several hiking trails start. It offers parking, information boards, toilets, and three shelters with barbecue areas. Bottenstugan is a perfect place for families with children, providing open spaces for fun and games.

From Bottenstugan, several different hiking trails of various lengths start. There are five circular routes and the Bohusleden, many of which can be combined for a longer hike. The Bottenstugan building provides excellent opportunities for camping activities. There are shelters for overnight stays, a cabin with a fireplace, and space for tents. Additionally, there's a woodshed and toilet facilities.

The Green Trail along Ålevatten

A 1.9-kilometer circular route along Ålevatten and the bathing spot. Ålevatten is rich in birdlife; during spring, you may hear the calls of the great northern diver. Other birds you might encounter include the osprey, black-throated diver, common raven, and common snipe. The trail passes by Anviksfallet and Håltesjön, where there is a resting place, before returning to Bottenstugan via the cottage ruins of Hans Hus and Jordkällaren.

The Red Trail North - Tjuvklämman

This circular route is 2.3 kilometers and passes through the meadows and the cottage ruins of Hans Hus, down to Håltesjön and Tjuvklämman. At Tjuvklämman, the trail continues into the forest, up over the heights, and back down to Bottenstugan.

The Red Trail South - Holmevatten

This trail takes you to Holmevatten and offers a beautiful view of the vast forests. At Holmevatten, there is a shelter and a resting place overlooking Ålevatten. Stairs lead from the resting place back down to Bottenstugan. The circular trail is 3 kilometers.

The Blue Trail

A 3-kilometer trail that ascends a ravine down to Tjuvklämman, where a resting place with a view of Håltesjön is located. Tjuvklämman is named after the robbers who are said to have lived and raided in the area. The trail continues towards Gröndalen, up to Lilla and Stora Iglekärr. A pause at the shelter might be suitable before continuing down towards Svartsjön and Bottenstugan.

The Yellow Trail - Svartsjön

A 4-kilometer trail via Svartsjön to the beautiful Äggdals Klarevatten and the heights leading down to the road back to Bottenstugan.

Bohusleden

Bohusleden is a 37-mile trail, divided into 27 stages, stretching from Lindome in the south to Strömstad in the north. Bohusleden stages 8 and 9 start/end at Bottenstugan.

Fact about the trail

Length:

Green: 1.9 km
Red North: 2.3 km
Blue: 3 km
Yellow: 4 km
Red South: 3 km

Marking:

Five circular trails start from Bottenstugan. These are marked with color-coded signs on poles, trees, and rocks. The Bohusleden, passing through Bottenstugan, is marked with orange signs.

Level of difficulty:

The trails mainly follow forest paths but also some gravel roads. None of the trails are entirely suitable for strollers, but certain sections can be manageable. Green and Red North are easier trails, while Red South, Blue, and Yellow have some steep passages. During spring and fall, the ground might be quite wet, so sturdy shoes, boots, or hiking shoes are recommended.

Start and end:

The trails both start and end at Bottenstugan, but naturally, one can start from other locations as well.

How to get here:

From E6 (exit Stora Höga junction, Traffic point 90), follow signs for 'Ucklum'. After about 1.5 km, turn right, following signs for 'Svartedalen 7'. Drive approximately 9 km until you see the sign for 'Bottenstugan'. Here, turn left.
