Living Cultural Historic Farm

Bossgården in Östra Gerum is a living farm with well-preserved buildings from the 19th century. The farm is partially operated using traditional methods, and vegetables are cultivated here for sale at local markets and directly from the farm.

The History of the Farm

Bossgården is located on the outskirts of the village of Östra Gerum, nestled between the two plateau mountains of Gerumsberget and Gisseberget. The farm was established between 1820 and 1870 and was constructed in a Gothic style. This means that the main farm and the livestock farm were bordered by a simple wooden fence with a gate. The main farm consists of the main building, two wing buildings, and a root cellar. The livestock farm comprises a barn and a stable and barn building, both covered with thatched roofs. From the farm, a stone-lined cattle path extends through the fields, connecting the farm to the grazing lands. There are also several ancient remains on the farm's land, indicating that the area has been inhabited and cultivated for a long time. The buildings are being restored using traditional techniques to preserve the unique environment.

Farming

At Bossgården, vegetables are grown for sale at local markets and from the farm, while grains are cultivated for household use and animal feed, among other purposes. The farm is partially operated using traditional methods, including meadow mowing, hay drying, and harvesting grains with a self-binder. However, the source of power is an older tractor rather than horses or oxen. The farm is home to cows, sheep, and chickens, which mainly graze on the farm's pastures. The vegetables grown on the farm are sold during the harvest season at the market in Tidaholm and through direct farm sales. Naturally, these vegetables are cultivated without the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers.
